In a recent interview, Sean Brennen, Director Public Relations - Supercross for Feld Entertainment, shared some information on the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship schedule. The 17-round schedule will feature returning venues for all but one round—the Pittsburgh SX.
“The Steel City” hosted two supercross rounds—May 13, 1978, and one July 9, 1983—at the old Three Rivers Stadium, which has been demolished for more than 20 years now. The races did not go great as weather impacted the fan attendance as well as the cleanup. A supercross round in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has not been on the schedule since.
But a Pittsburgh has been rumored for a return to the supercross schedule now for a couple of years and 2025 is finally the year it was able to happen. As Brennen explained in our interview, in order to gain one new venue, you must lose somewhere else, and the '25 schedule will not feature any northern California rounds in order to add Pennsylvania’s Acrisure Stadium.

When it comes to Pittsburgh, why the choice to go with Acrisure Stadium (NFL stadium for the Steelers) over PNC Park (MLB stadium for the Pirates)? Both stadiums opened in 2001 and are literally right down the road from one another (about a two-minute drive as they are 0.5 miles away). So, how does the decision come about? Take in account the weather in southwestern Pennsylvania and a race here would need to be as late in the schedule as possible but that pushes into April and the Pirates’ busy opening month of the season (their home opener is Friday, April 4). So, there are several factors to it. Brennen explained:
“Yeah, for these talks, and I don't know, like I mentioned our routing and tours [department] I'm sure they had conversations with PNC Park for sure. But I do know that the folks behind the scene at Acrisure have for a long time wanted supercross and they also wanted Monster Jam. So, they have approached us on several occasions. And then just ongoing dialogue, ongoing conversations. It has taken a long time to obviously get here. PNC Park would be an amazing facility, but I don't know if it has the footprint around it. And when you get into the cities and the who owns what, with parking lots and things like that, I don't know that PNC Park has the amount of space around it and/or with city contracts and parking lots and who owns what that we would be able to have the same experience in fan fest and PNC that we're able to do at Acrisure. So again, there are so many layers to all of this, but I can tell you that Acrisure, they wanted us, we certainly wanted to go there, but it really took this long to come up with the right date.”
Had a great conversation last week with Sean Brennen, Director of Public Relations - #Supercross, for Feld Entertainment, where we chatted about the 2025 SX schedule.

Brennen said he has been excited about having a Pittsburgh SX back on the schedule since about 2020. He also stated the Pittsburgh SX ticket sales have already been through the roof.
“If Pittsburgh ticket sales are any indication right now, we'll certainly be coming back to Pittsburgh because, out of the gate…our pre-sale, that was the number one selling market in our pre-sale and then our first week of general [tickets] on sale as well. So, the proof of concept in Pittsburgh and Acrisure Stadium, the fans are excited and, I know you're excited, I know I'm excited. Boy, that is gonna be a highlight for I think a lot of different reasons. But super excited to be going to, to Pittsburgh and Acrisure Stadium for the very first time.”
Brennen also put out there that he is inviting two-time Super Bowl Champion Ben “Big Ben” Roethlisberger, who was the Steelers starting quarterback for 18 seasons, to be the grand marshal for the Pittsburgh SX round. How can we make this happen?
“Hey, this is an open call to all of our sports teams in Pittsburgh: you're all invited, come on out. Certainly a plea for Ben Roethlisberger, we’d love to offer you the grand marshal. So, here's your open invite, Big Ben. We hope to see you there April 26!”
Whether Big Ben is the grand marshal or not, catch me at Acrisure Stadium on April 26 with my black and gold gear ready for some supercross racing!
